Tom Emmer, the Republican candidate for governor in 2010 who lost a close race to Mark Dayton, says he'll  make an announcement Wednesday in Delano.

While no topic was disclosed, Emmer is considered a likely candidate to run for the 6th District House seat. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann said last week that she won't seek re-election.

On his Facebook page, Emmer says he'll be making his announcement "at 6 p.m. at the River Front and Lions Park, 225 North River Street, Delano."

Delano is in the 6th District.

Bachmann's announcement threw the 6th District race into a tizzy, with much speculation about the many Republicans, including Emmer, who might want to take a run.

It affected the Democrats, too. Hotelier Jim Graves, who came close to upsetting Bachmann last November and had pledged to make a second run with more help from national Democrats, said he has withdrawn from the race, too.

He told MinnPost's Eric Black:

"Basically, after all that’s gone on, and with Michele Bachmann now stepping down, I’ve been talking to my friends and family and frankly, the feeling is, ‘Mission Accomplished.’ She wasn’t representing the people of the 6th District appropriately, and now she won’t be representing them. There’s no way anyone could run and win who would be worse than Michele Bachmann. So we accomplished that task."
