Mark Jenkins was elected Saturday to a second term as state chair of the Independence Party of Minnesota at its annual convention in St. Cloud.

At the convention, the party also amended its platform to call for the legalization and taxation of marijuana.

The party also elected Kyle Lewis of Eden Prairie as its director, and Ben Thome of Minneapolis as party secretary. It also re-elected treasurer Sally Paulsen of Arden Hill.

Jenkins, of Maplewood, ran for the state Senate in 2010.

After the convention, Jenkins wrote on his Facebook page:

The party chose to tell the government and all Minnesotans that we will no longer sit around and complain about imbalanced budgets and failing grades in campaign finance reporting. We will stand up for Minnesota taxpayers and hold the state accountable for these failings. I am simultaneously exhausted and re-energized after today's convention.

The party also decided to hold its 2014 convention, where it will nominate a candidate for governor, in Mankato next May.
