Bear researcher Lynn Rogers can keep radio collars on 10 bears for the time being, but he has to limit hand-feeding of the bears and end live "den-cam" streaming under a settlement announced today.
Rogers had taken his dispute with the DNR to court after the state agency revoked his permits for the bear work because they said he wasn't producing enough published research and because hand-feeding the bears was making them dangerous to humans.
The settlement today means Rogers can keep the radio-collar project going until a hearing is held before an administrative law judge, likely in the next six to nine months.
Rogers was not at the hearing before Judge John Guthmann today in Ramsey County District Court; he was in the field with a class, his associates said.
