We're used to hearing about radio collars being used on large animals like bears and moose for tracking purposes, but for smaller animals — like the prairie hognose snake, for example — other measures must be taken. In this video, Minnesota DNR specialists surgically implant a radio transmitter in a snake. The transmitter will allow them to track the snake's movements, learning about its range, where it lays its eggs, and other habits. The purpose of the research is to determine the effect of patch-burn grazing on prairie species.
