Don't believe the hype

from Mr. Dilettante's Neighborhood by Mark Heuring

I've been noticing a lot of triumphalism on the Right today, following the shaky performance of President Obama in yesterday's debate. Let’s cut to the chase.

Presidential concurrent news conferences a.k.a. debates

from Old and In the Way by Gary Sankary

Anyway, on the CBC they were talking about the US Presidential debates. I guess I never thought about it before, and I might be the last guy to the pile on this, but sometime in the last several decades the League of Women Voters dropped their sponsorship of the debates. They’re now run by a shady group called The Commission on Presidential Debates. This group is a non-profit run by the DNC and RNC for the purposes of managing how the presidential debates are to be run.

That’s a nice way to say no third party candidates, predetermined questions, and predetermined panelists. If you didn’t think debates were bought and paid for before… well. This year in particular these debates are really nothing more than a couple concurrent news conferences, so I’ll pass thank you.

Dodd-Frank, a non-issue

from Bartaria by Erik Hare

Some of you know far more about this than I do, but this absolutely shocked me.  Dodd-Frank is really a non-issue, a half-step where a bold march forward is called for.  About half the world thinks it went too far and half thinks it didn’t go far enough, meaning it’s a rough compromise.  And, in practice, it doesn’t seem to have really changed very much.

How did this come up as an issue?  Dunno.  But I’m asking all of you to correct me if I have this wrong.

Mixer: @KitchenAidUSA’s incredible PR lesson

from Girl Meets Geek by Kate-Madonna Hindes

Just moments into tonight’s Presidential Debate, @KitchenAidUSA tweeted an inflammatory statement about President Obama’s deceased grandmother. As you can imagine, the Twittersphere crashed to a halt to try and figure out what was going on with KitchenAid’s brand. Just minutes after the poster realized what they had done, the tweet was deleted. Then, the backlash began.

Shelter report: Marriage? The greatest of these is love

from Across the Great Divide by Charlie Quimby

What separates the homeless pre-schoolers from those adults is not marriage or even housing opportunities. It's some have people who love them and some have run out of love.

Minnesota group announces broader marriage ban for 2014

from Wry Wing Politics by Joe Loveland

Fobe said the group would propose a ballot initiative to amend the Minnesota Constitution to nullify marriages of Minnesota heterosexual couples who reach the age of 44 without bearing any children.

Moving incrementally towards robot cars

from streets.mn by Reuben Collins

...cars are not doing enough to keep us safe. Not anywhere close. And we have been negligent in demanding that automobile manufacturers continue to develop technologies to keep us more safe. Robot cars that completely eliminate humans from the equation are the answer, and we’re slowly getting there, but too slowly.
