Bear researcher Lynn Rogers took his case to court Monday, hoping to get a reprieve from the state DNR's ruling that will yank his permits to use radio collars to study bears in the wild.

Rogers reportedly isn't attending the hearing in Ramsey County District Court, as his lawyers seek a temporary restraining order that would let him continue to use the collars past this week's DRN deadline.

Rogers asked Gov. Mark Dayton to intervene in the dispute last week; when that wasn't successful, he filed suit.

The DNR says Rogers hasn't published peer-reviewed research on his encounters with bears in the wild, and that he allows hand-feeding with bears, which makes them more tolerant of humans, and more dangerous.

Rogers' work has been seen my many, particularly from the live streaming of bears on the web site of his North American Bear Center.
